“Is your Father also Jesse Stay?”

I can’t tell you how many times in my life I have heard those words when introducing myself. Whether I was registering for school, going to church, a Boy Scout, or even half-way around ... Continue reading »

  • My sympathies on your loss - I know your family will miss him.
Thank you for sharing a glimpse of his life with those of us who never knew him.
He was clearly an amazing man.

    May he rest in peace.
  • Thank you GeekMommy!
  • Hi Jesse, this is your cousin Karen, I've posted my own tribute over on my blog at http://karenspoetryspot.blogspot.com/2008/06/ju... Thanks for writing this.
  • Karen I loved your post as well - thanks for sharing that. It reflects a lot of my memories from childhood as well. I only wish Grandpa could have met our Jesse III like he was able to with your Elizabeth. Your post was touching.
  • Jesse,

Please accept my deepest sympathy for the loss of your Grandfather. Your story honoring him is beautiful and inspirational.
I pray the love of God envelops you during your difficult times and he helps you heal with the passage of time.
Me Ke Aloha Pumehana (with warmest regards)

  • Kalei Thank you - my Grandfather had a great respect for Hawaii, after
living there and serving the people there.
  • Thanks for sharing a bit of your grandfather's life with us Jesse.
  • Thanks Phil!
  • God bless your Grandfather. I thank him for his contribution and for the freedom I enjoy because of it.
  • Wow, he helped produce a lot of LDS classic films! Thanks for sharing your thoughts about your grandfather on this day.
  • Thank you for writing this Jesse. I've told you before but my mom and dad planned on naming me after Grandpa if I had been a boy. They were so upset when you were born two weeks before I was and your parents named you Jesse first! It is amazing to look over Grandpa's life and see all of the good that he did. You are lucky to bear his name and I'm sure it's a great reminder about what is truly important in life.
  • Yeah I was thinking yesterday and I guess I'm probably only the 3rd Stay boy
in the extended family (not including the Browns, Danielsons, or Moores - we
love them, too). Makes me feel old!
  • Jesse, Thank you for that wonderful tribute to your Grandfather and my Uncle. He was my WW2 hero. I have loved your Grandparents all my life. He will truly be missed, but we know we will be reunited someday. May I offer my most sincere condolences.

  • What an amazing tribute to a great man! Thank you for sharing it with the world (wide web). :)
  • Your grandfather is my great uncle. His older sister, Lorna, is my grandmother. Your grandfather was truly a great man and a wonderful example to everyone. My husband joined the church in Rosario, Argentina. I knew he served as a Mission president in South America, but never knew it was in my husbands area! You have an awesome name after one of the most awesome men I have ever met - even better that I'm actually related to him! Your family has truly been blessed by such a great and humble man. know he'll be missed by many. But now his real work begins!.
  • Chris, it's an honor meeting you. If you're in Utah, his graveside service
will be Monday and I'm sure you are welcome to come. He will be buried with
    military honors.
  • Jesse
My mom (LaRae) brother Bob and sister Caren and I plan on being there. I understand it's in Orem. We're all up in Davis County. Looking forward to seeing and meeting family members and saying "fair winds and following seas' to Uncle Jesse.
    Chris
  • Jesse,
what an awesome tribute you have given to your Grandfather. We send our prayers and aloha in this time of grieving to your family.
  • Colonel Jesse, you've serve the nation well. It's time to have a good rest.
  • I know that I am reading your post some time after the fact, but still I was touched by your words of tribute.

Your grandfather has not only provided a legacy for your family, but has given all of us a level of freedom that we cannot really ever repay fully. He will be blessed for eternity for what he has contributed to this world.

We are all blessed by the legacy of greatness that proceeds us.
We should pass it on down the line!
  • Thank you for those kind words. I too am so grateful for the liberties and
    freedoms he protected.
